PlayStation Move is a motion-sensing game controller for the PlayStation 3 which is based on a handheld motion controller wand. The device features a glowing orb which works with the PlayStation Eye camera to track the wand’s position, and sensors in the wand to detect its motion.
This to me sounds like an over emphasized Nintendo Wii but there is however, more to it than that…..
The motion controller features vibration-based haptic technology meaning that in addition to providing tracking, the controller can be used to provide visual feedback and to simulate effects such as the flash of a gunshot, or the paint on a brush.
The controllers will also have a charging station so that is a definite advantage over the Nintendo Wii as through personal experience I am always looking for batteries when I go to play on this console! These controllers will also model a shooting attachment, but this comes at an extra cost, as does the charging station.
One definite and much needed advantage and improvement of the Move over the Wii is that the games support HD graphics as they are in the format of a Blu-Ray disc. However the current list of PlayStation Move compatible games is only small and does not accommodate the most popular games such as Modern Warfare 2 and Uncharted. In addition, some of the games that are compatible with the Playstation Move are exclusive to Move and therefore will not be able to be used by those who do not have the Move attachment.
So will PlayStation Move be worth the wait?
I’d say not. With all the pros and cons laid out, I’d say it is nothing more than an updated version of the Nintendo Wii.
If you really want something different, and something that gives real value for money, I’d suggest opting for the Xbox Kinect – futuristic technology designed for the whole family.
