Symantec Backup Exec 2010 DLO Desktop Agent Failed to Connect to the Media Server

Posted by Mohammed on Wednesday, March 2nd, 2011

A desktop or laptop user might get a Desktop Agent pop up message prompting them to enter their username, domain and password.

When the user’s details are entered, it may fail and the following error could appear:

Desktop Agent failed to connect to the Media Server “SERVERNAME”. Please enter a valid username and password below

This is because the desktop agent cannot access the user data folder on the server. So you need to check that the user can browse and access DLO agent share from the desktop or laptop they are working on.

To test this;

Go to “Start”, “Run” and type \\”ServerName” (this is the Backup Exec Server name).

Then, browse and open the User DLO backup Folder.

If this fails, you need to check the folder security options, and you may need to give the user read/write permissions.

This should resolve the problem and desktop agent should now work correctly.

Kendal-based Westmorland Signs International – a national developer of innovative way finding solutions including modular sign systems, brand implementation strategies and the very latest digital sign and multimedia software applications – has commissioned axon IT to deploy and manage a complete end to end IT solution to support the business. Having supplied a new server to the firm, axon will now support all aspects of Westmorland Signs International’s new IT infrastructure.

Finally, Macclesfield-based buying and marketing consortium Caterforce, who work with six of the UK’s leading independent foodservice wholesalers, has renewed its contract with axon IT for a further two years.

Elaine Brown, Office Administrator for Caterforce commented; “axon IT has successfully provided flexible and affordable off site IT solutions which have proved essential for the smooth running of our business. The team has provided invaluable advice regarding our system upgrade and we have benefited from this immensely. axon has emphasised the importance of how much we rely on our technology as a business and are always on hand to securely solve our IT issues.

“We are pleased to announce the renewal of our contract with axon and look forward to developing the relationship further.”

Commenting on the latest new business wins axon IT Director Graham Fern said: “These account wins are great for the business and highlight our continual understanding of customers’ requirements.

“The fact that clients return to us is testament to the support and skills of our engineers, our up to date knowledge and developing expertise.”
